BRONCOS READY FOR TITLE DEFENCE

NEWPORT TITANS FACE THE SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS

BONYMAEN Broncos start the defence of their South Wales Conference title on Sunday knowing that it will be a lot more competitive than in previous years.

The Broncos took the crown in the Conference title last year with an unbeaten run throughout the summer that culminated in a Grand Final victory over Bridgend Blue Bulls at Virginia Park, Caerphilly.

Now they start their defence against Newport Titans at Bonymaen RFC (kick-off: 2pm) and team manager Steve Williams admits that it will be hard to defend in a more expansive league.

He said: “With the league being a lot bigger, we are looking forward to that. With the South Wales Hornets finishing as well, I think a few boys will come into different sides in the league which will make it competitive

“Come Sunday, we will all be ready for it and go from there. We will hopefully get one or two sessions in next week before the Valley Cougars which is our second match at home. That's a bonus for us.

“The last two years, from where we started, the boys have bought into it and the big thing is that it is not just Union boys but others who want to play rugby league and they are thoroughly enjoying the experience. Hopefully we will be defending the title but it is good to see a lot more clubs coming into it.”
