Dee Valley trounce Wrexham

Dee Valley Dragons had their first win of the 2012 North Wales Conference at the expense of Wrexham Bradley Raiders.  From the first whistlem the Dragons gave the Raiders problems in defence with a try in the first two minutes thanks to an outstretched Elgan Evans who broke the line to score from 10 metres. Evans then went on to score another four tries during the afternoon playing at loose forward.

The game carried on in much the same format until an injury halted play on 30 minutes. Some good running and defensive work meant the Dragons went in with a 28-0 lead on the half.

A spirited start to the second half saw the Raiders break the defensive lines on many occasions but with small errors in the final movement was unable to capitalise on the possession and territory.  The second half of the match was a much more open game with winger Josh Wilson running in five tries in total with four from within his own half. Some good forward work from the Raiders and some lacklustre tackling led to their first try on the hour and an intercepted pass gave them a second, both converted.

With the Raiders on a roll, Dee Valley had to pull out some excellent defending led by man of the match Owain Owen to halt another Raiders attack. The Dragons looked a much more complete outfit with strength and depths in their squad with players interchanging regularly whereas the Raiders suffered more injuries on the day.
