East Wales v West Wales

The South-Wales based Welsh Rugby League Conference Premier holds its first East Wales v West Wales clash at senior level in seven years when the two representative sides meet at Porthcawl RFC this Saturday (kick-off 2pm).

The location has been changed from the originally announced venue of Maesteg RFC.

The sides will be selected from Wales’ eight Conference Premier clubs in South Wales with East Wales being selected from Cardiff Demons, Titans (Machen), Valley Cougars and Blackwood Bulldogs, while players from Bridgend Blue Bulls, Bonymaen Broncos, Dyffryn Devils and Tydfil Wildcats make up an equally strong West Wales side.

No more than six players can be selected from one club side, making this a true representative match.

The match, while being a showpiece in itself, will also help Wales Dragonhearts management with their squad selection for the upcoming internationals that start with an away match against England on Saturday 23rd June in Leigh.

Wales Rugby League’s National Development Manager, Mark Jones, said: “We were delighted to bring back the East v West Origin game in South Wales after such a long absence. This proved very popular in the early stages of club development in the last decade and we’re sure it will be equally as popular now. We are looking forward to a large crowd at Porthcawl RFC this Saturday for what I’m sure will be a very competitive game.”
