Cougars and Titans aim for Grand Final spot

Valley Cougars will be looking for back-to-back Grand Final appearance

Valley Cougars will be looking for back-to-back Grand Final appearances when they face the Titans on Sunday at Nelson RFC (kick-off 2.30pm).

The Cougars, who won the Welsh Conference Grand Final last season, host the Titans in a play-off to determine who will meet Bridgend Blue Bulls in the showpiece final.

‘A' team manager Clive Batchelor said: "Having entered an ‘A' team into the Welsh Conference it's pleasing to have finished second in the league.

"The ‘A' team was created to keep our ties within the local structure of the game and provide another way to develop players for the first team.

"With that in mind, we still wanted to be competitive, and will hope to be in this game against the Titans."

This will be the third time that the teams have met this season, with the corresponding league fixtures both ending in wins for the Cougars.

The ‘A' team needed four tries in the final seven minutes to salvage victory at Caerphilly earlier in the year, and Batchelor believes the wounds from that defeat are still raw.

"We've had two hard-fought, very close games against them, but having come out on top twice we will have to be aware that they will be looking to rectify that.

"At our place, they had it won until we were able to turn it around in the dying stages, and losing in that manner is sometimes a bitter pill to swallow.

"Having said that, there's no greater incentive for us than a place in the Grand Final - so we'll be looking to win and extend our season by another week."
