2011 Students - Ireland 6 Wales 40

Wales Students hammered their Irish counterparts 40-6 on Friday

Wales Students hammered their Irish counterparts 40-6 on Friday evening to secure second place to England in the Home Nations Championships.

The Irish actually scored first but after that it was one-way traffic. From a penalty, the Irish broke through the Welsh line with Cian Erraught setting up Luke Donlon to power over the line. Sean Carmody was successful with the conversion.

Ireland were awarded a penalty in their own line but a knock on provided the Welsh with an opportunity which Lewis Warner took to bring Wales within two points with the conversion unsuccessful.

Then Lewis Warner jinxed his way through to score under the posts which was converted by Amber to give Wales a 10-6 lead.

Wales began to dominate possession which resulted in Chris McNamara powering through the line to score out wide. Amber slotted the conversion from out wide.

Wales conceded two penalties in quick succession that allowed Ireland to work into the Welsh 20 metre area but again poor handling thwarted their attacking efforts and allowed Wales to work themselves out of danger into half time.

Wales increased their lead after Ireland conceded another penalty for offside and Ollie O'Mara was sin binned reducing Ireland to 12 men. Wales took full advantage as Kyle Blackmoore dived into the posts before rolling off the tackle to touchdown. Amber converted.

Wales mounted another attack on the Irish line and Patrick Evans bulldozed his way through a tackle to score. Amber added the extras to take the score to Wales 28 Ireland 26.

From the kick off, the Welsh forward laid a platform for Chris McNamara burst through the tackle to run 30 metres and score to increase Wales' lead which Amber converted.
Ireland were again put under pressure in their own half as a floated pass was picked off by Dermot Dooley who ran in a final score final for the Welsh before Amber added the extras.
