Wales Rugby League star Gareth Thomas has been invited to the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Thomas skippered Wales to a European Cup win last year when they beat France in the final game. This qualified Wales to take part in this year's Four Nations tournament against England, Australia and New Zealand which takes place in October and November.

But before Thomas takes part in one of Wales Rugby League's biggest ever ocassions, he'll be attending the UK's event of the year next month.

‘Alfie' will be one of 1,900 guests packing Westminster Abbey for a close-up view on Friday 29 April.

But he, along with many other attendees of the service, will not go on to the Buckingham Palace reception.

"I'm in London to get a suit fitted," Thomas commented in The Telegraph today.

"I'm a friend of William through rugby. I'm just going to the service. I'm not nervous about it. It will be really good."

Thomas's agent Emmanuel Paladino explains that the Crusaders star will be one of those, whose official invitation of a white card gilded with gold and die-stamped with the Queen's initials, extends only to the Abbey service.

"Getting the invitation was a pleasant surprise for him and he is definitely looking forward to it very much," he said.

"It is not every day you get to go to a Royal wedding.

"Gareth will be attending the service at Westminster Abbey and he thinks it should be an excellent and fun day."
