Wales v Italy rescheduled for Wednesday

Wales v Italy, postponed earlier today, will be replayed on Wednesday.

Wales v Italy, postponed earlier today, will now be replayed on Wednesday 6th October (kick-off 7.30pm) at the same venue of The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.

And Wales coach Iestyn Harris has confirmed that Gareth Thomas will definitely play and win his first Rugby League international cap.

Wednesday's game will be a full international. The under 23 game at Colwyn Bay, scheduled for the same evening, will now be cancelled.

"I'm pleased to confirm that Gareth Thomas will definitely play on Wednesday," said Harris. "He had a fitness test on Friday after a few months out and he came through with flying colours. He's looking forward to winning his first ever Rugby League cap to go with the 100 he won in the 15-man code.

"He needs valuable game time before our Alitalia European Cup campaign and he's thoroughly looking forward to the match.

"Ben Flower, who has been out for a similar length of time, will also start, as will their fellow Crusaders' team-mates Gil Dudson and Lloyd White.

"We're delighted with the enthusiasm that has been shown before the game by the amount of fans who have bought tickets in advance. We were expecting a bumper crowd today and we hope that you can all come back on Wednesday to give Wales your full support."

Italy coach Carlo Napolitano said: "Our preparations for this match have gone really well. All the players are looking forward to taking on Wales. Now that the game is on Wednesday, it will give us a couple of extra days worth to prepare and fans will see the game that they wanted to see today.

"We're very fortunate to have a lot of players all around the world wanting to play for Italy. I did a training session in Italy last week and there were players whose first language was Italian, English and French. It's lucky that I know a bit of all the languages and we get through quite well.

"Everyone around here will know Rocky Trimarchi but we have quite a few good players in our squad. We've Chris Caligari who's been in the French national train-on squad in the past - he's in our three-quarters - and we've got Ray Nasso and his brother Dom, who is in the top 25 at Parramatta Eels. We've got some skill and talent there and they'll help our Italian born players who don't have as much experience as our overseas based players - some of them will get the opportunity to take on Wales too this Wednesday."

Tickets already bought for the game will be valid again on Wednesday. If any fans are unable to make the rescheduled match, they can call 01978 262129 or email to request a full refund.
