Conference Report 2010 - Bridgend 56 Cardiff 4
Bridgend Blue Bulls will take on Valley Cougars in Saturday's Final
Bridgend Blue Bulls will take on Valley Cougars in Saturday's Co-operative Welsh Rugby League Conference Grand Final in Caerphilly after an emphatic 56-4 victory over Cardiff Demons.
Cardiff had the best of the first 20 minutes and did everything but score, putting the Blue Bulls backline under intense pressure.
But Bridgend took the lead with their first real attack when Shaun Owens ran over for a try which was converted by Gareth Howells.
The lead was doubled when Karl Hocking forced his way through to make the score 10-0.
Connor McDonald scored straight from kick-off with Howells converting again then a Tylan Mafi try in corner made the score 22-0 soon after that and it was game over for the plucky Cardiff.
Howells went through for his first try but failed to convert and Bridgend were 26-0 up at half-time.
It was soon 32-0 straight after the interval when Howells went over and converted before getting a hat-trick to make it 36-0.
Cardiff finally got over the line when James Thatcher fed Maltese international Paul Bartlett to go over.
But Bridgend restored the balance when Alan Pope, who is also contracted to South Wales Scorpions intercepted to score under the sticks.
McDonald went over for two more tries to complete his hat-trick, Matt Hutchings added another, as well as converting three times himself to complete the rout.
