A well-drilled RFL Conference side beat their Welsh counterparts 40-8 in front of a good vociferous crowd at Chosen Hill in Gloucester.

They got off to a superb start when prolific Crawley centre Richard Billings opened the scoring on eight minutes after good work from Chris Caws.

The Hemel half-back’s superb kicking game continually drove the Welsh back with Mark Dando leading the Welsh rearguard.

An accumulation of pressure saw Rob North crash over after enterprise from Phil Aitken to double the lead.

A Richard Smith interception six minutes later made it 18-0 on the half-hour and put the hosts in charge.

A minute before the break, Crawley’s Dave Wattam capped a superb season with a try fashioned by Caws and North, and a similar time after the interval, team-mate Billings grabbed his second touchdown supporting a wonderful elusive break by Rob Johnson.

Darryl Jackson, a stalwart of the Rotherham pack this season, strolled over soon after and Aitken claimed the RLC’s seventh try after great lead up from John Mulranney and Micky Scargill.

Two late tries to John Midgeley and Jon Breakingbury summed up the spirit amongst the Welsh but the 40-8 win brought immense satisfaction to the new RLC backroom staff.
