Wales head coach John Kear was delighted after yesterday's 50-0 victory over Serbia

Wales head coach John Kear was delighted with a "very good team performance" in yesterday's 50-0 victory over Serbia in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers.

The Dragons kicked off their bid for qualification in the best possible way, as they produced a professional display to see off the Serbians.

Kear's men held a 20-0 lead at the interval, before stepping up their performance by another gear in the second-half to notch a further 30 points.

"I’m really pleased with what the players have turned out," Kear said.

“I’ve been delighted with how they’ve prepared for the game; the two mini camps that we’ve had in North Wales were exceptionally good.

“We were a bit scratchy [during our team run] on Friday, but I think anybody who’s travelled down from Wrexham to Llanelli will realise the logistical problems and the time you spend on the road.

“They’ve turned up with what I would call a very good team performance indeed.

“We felt that, if our contact was good and we controlled the ruck area, we could restrict them.

“It’s continued from last year; we conceded four tries in three games in the European Championships and, up to now, it’s been none from one game.

“I don’t think people who were watching at home would have realised how much it rained. It makes it difficult, but I thought we looked after the ball well.

“When it came to playing some rugby, I thought we played some great stuff and some of the tries that we scored were exceptional.

“I’m very proud and happy with the performance."

Next up for Wales is a full international against Jamaica - who beat Ireland 68-16 earlier today - at Wakefield's Belle Vue Stadium on Friday, October 21.
