University Links Continue to Grow in Wales
Cardiff Met Alumni Continue to Support Current Team
Links continue to grow for Cardiff Met University as seen in the picture above as former and current alumni discuss how rugby league can be developed in partnership across the university.
At the South Wales Ironmen launch on Tuesday morning, current Cardiff Met club captain Liam Curnow met up with former Cardiff Met students Phil Carleton (Ironmen Head Coach, Full Welsh International, GB and Welsh Students International and Cardiff Met graduate 2006), Izaak Duffy (Ironmen player, Full Welsh International, Welsh Student International and Cardiff Met student 2010-2012) and Idris Evans (Wales Rugby League National Development Manager and Cardiff Met graduate 2006) to discuss working together and share their experiences at Cardiff Met.
The 2016-17 season looks very exciting for students studying in Wales as the Student World Cup will take place in June / July 2017 in Australia.
Wales Rugby League are also working closely with all the universities to create some Varsity style matches / festivals as well as the return of a National 9s Festival to support the World Cup selection. This will be played between all the Welsh Universities as well as potentially colleges and an Exiles team made up of Welsh qualified students playing elsewhere in universities in the UK.
All the universities this year will be supported by Wales Rugby League and their staff with Jon Ellis, Peter Tiffin and Andy Thorne working closely with Aberystwyth and Swansea Universities, Allen Jones supporting Bangor University, Paul Emanuelli (Ironmen Reserves Head Coach and 1st Team Stand Off) and Rob Davies (Torfaen Tigers Chairman) at the University of South Wales and Idris Evans at Cardiff Met.
