Monmouth Year 11 Book Their Place in Schools Final

Monmouth too strong for battling Aberdare

The Year 11 Champion Schools Semi Final East - Central saw Monmouth host Aberdare school last Monday (18th of April) to determine who would enter the finals day with the chance of being crowned Welsh Champions.

Once again, similar to last week’s year 9 Semi-Final, the sun was shining brightly making conditions perfect for attacking play.

Monmouth started the quicker of the two sides, using their larger forwards to great effect, breaking up the center of the field and drawing defenders on a regular basis and exploiting gaps out wide.

Aberdare dug deep to defend but couldn’t quite do enough to keep out the attacking onslaught they faced.

Both teams welcomed the half time whistle to catch their breath with Monmouth edging ahead 26 points (5 tries and 3 conversions) to Aberdare’s 10 points (2 tries and 1 conversion).

The second half was pretty much the same for battling Aberdare as Monmouth piled on the pressure and built on the 1st half score.

Scoring in the second half included Monmouth crossing for four additional tries (2 converted) and Aberdare crossing for 3 tries (2 converted).

Final Score: Monmouth 46 - 26 Aberdare

Monmouth will now progress into the Schools Finals Day to be played the week commencing the 2nd of May.
