Wales Rugby League would like to congratulate their head coach John Kear on his appointment as director of rugby at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, starting in the 2017 season.

Kear, who coached Wales to European Cup victory last year, has sent a short message of reassurance to Wales Rugby League fans.

He said: “My appointment at Wakefield in no way affects my role as head coach of Wales and I am looking forward to the Rugby League World Cup qualifiers this autumn.”

Wales will host Serbia before travelling to Italy, with the winner of the three team group going straight into the finals in Australia in November 2017. The group runners up will face the team who finishes second place in the other European group which is being contested by Ireland, Spain and Russia.

The exact dates and times of these games are to be confirmed.
