Running order confirmed for Big Welsh Derby day

Wales Rugby League have confirmed the complete running order for the Big Welsh Derby day on Sunday 10th May at Cardiff Arms Park which culminates in South Wales Scorpions taking on North Wales Crusaders in a Kingstone Press League 1 encount

Wales Rugby League have confirmed the complete running order for the Big Welsh Derby day on Sunday 10th May at Cardiff Arms Park which culminates in South Wales Scorpions taking on North Wales Crusaders in a Kingstone Press League 1 encounter (kick-off 3pm).

Cardiff City Rugby League will play a major part in the day’s events as the newly merged club will host last year’s league leaders Aber Valley Wolves in the first match of the 2015 Welsh Conference season (kick-off 12.30pm).

The capital club’s second side will also take to the field, facing Valley Cougars seconds at 11am.

The day action will start at 9am with two big South Wales junior matches where East Wales take on West Wales at both under 14 and under 15 level.

Last year’s Scorpions match at the Arms Park, when they took on beat London Skolars, generated their biggest crowd of the season. Now, with the inclusion of Cardiff City RL, who are attracting good crowds to the Arms Park for their matches, organisers are hopeful that this occasion will see a four figure crowd for the event, creating a fantastic atmosphere and a great day out.

Wales Rugby League chairman Brian Juliff said: “We’re delighted that Big Welsh Derby day at Cardiff Arms Park will be focussing on many levels of Rugby League in Wales.

“The conclusion of the day sees our two professional clubs face each other in what will be a very exciting encounter but I can’t wait to see some of the action beforehand.

“Our under 14s and under 15s East v West Origin matches have always produced stars of the future, while I’m also pleased that we’re launching the 2015 Welsh Conference season at Cardiff Arms Park.

“Cardiff City Rugby League are a result of a merger between Cardiff Demons and Cardiff Spartans and it’s good to see that two open age teams will still be running in Cardiff but now under one unified banner.

“The Big Welsh Derby day is certain to be a big day out and I encourage fans to get their tickets as soon as they can.”

Tickets for the Big Welsh Derby day are available now from both www.scorpionsrl.com and www.walesrugbyleague.co.uk priced £10 for adults, £5 concessions, £2 for children aged 12-16 and £1 for primary school children.
