Welsh Conference South Match Reports

Wins for Blue Bulls and Cougars in Round 7.

BRIDGEND BLUE BULLS 66-34 NEWPORT TITANS

Report by Matthew Davies at Pyle RFC.

Bridgend Blue Bulls remain in the hunt for a home play off place after a 66-34 victory over Newport Titans.

Huw Rosser continued in his rich try-scoring form with a fine hat trick. Owen Thomas, Tylon Mafi, Joe Symons and Aaron Grabham all grabbed braces with Bulls stalwart Mark Orpin also crossing the whitewash.

Orpin opened the scoring in the match, crashing over from close range following a patient opening set from Bridgend.

The Titans hit back immediately after Rhys Meredith found a way through the Bulls defence. Meredith crossed to score again after a cheeky grubbar kick caught the Bridgend defence napping.

A duo of tries from Rosser and Thomas gave Bridgend control of the match before a scintillating solo run from Symons created further daylight between the two teams as the half time whistle sounded.

The second half started with the teams going tit for tat. Thomas and Rosser again finding holes in the defence to score but Dean Higgs scored a hat trick to keep the Bulls on their toes, sniping over from dummy half for all three.

Mafi crossed twice in quick succession before Craig Wood powered his way over for the visitors in the corner as Newport continued to battle.

Debutant Grabham got in on the act with a quick double which sandwiches another Symons score.  Grabham racing in down the touchline two times in a row as the Bulls spread the ball wide with the young half back, Symons finishing in similar fashion.
