Raiders capitulate at the hands of Celts

Conwy Celts hit back after a hammering against the Wales Students at the Racecourse Ground, with an emphatic victory over Wrexham Bradley Raiders.

It was a fourteen-try victory for the Celts and they raced out of the blocks to secure the game by the interval.

Sam Ryan and Matt Paddington both went over for tries within the opening four minutes and it was the kind of start the Raiders wanted to avoid, still awaiting their first points in the North Wales Conference.

Co Weston increased that advantage to 18 points, but Dave Forward replied to that score following some good ball handling on the left flank. They couldn’t prevent the next two Celts tries however, taking them into a 30-4 lead at the break.

If the start to the first half was bad then the start to the second period was disastrous, Conwy scoring through Lee Davies in the opening minute. Full back Jordan Sheridan dived over for the Celts’ seventh and James Gregson added another two, to complete his treble just before the hour mark.

Five further tries were added in the final 15 minutes, the onslaught continuing with two tries provided by Lee Davies to seal his hat trick of tries. The other efforts came from Josh Ward, Spencer Lumby, and James Gregson, who picked up his fourth.

This victory was exactly what the Celts needed, coming back strong after last week’s embarassment and taking themselves to first in the table. The Raiders conjured together some strong spells of possession and threatened the Celts’ line, but the away side always looked the stronger from the off. Their overall game was far stronger, doing most of the damage up the middle through the forwards.
