The match ball for the Rugby League World Cup 2013 match - Wales v Cook Islands this Sunday at The Gnoll in Neath (kick-off 2pm) will be delivered by 14 year old Jacob John Tate from Craig Cefn Parc in the Lower Swansea Valley.

Jacob (no relation to Brett Tate of Australia) lives with his mum and sister Jasmine. He attends Cwmtawe Comprehensive school where he is studying for his GCSE’s including BTEC Sport and plays Rugby League for

Swansea Valley Rhinos.

Mark Jones, Wales Rugby League’s National Development Manager, said:  “Jacob’s love of Rugby League developed when he and a group of boys were prevented from playing rugby union.

“So players and parents then set up the Rhinos which is based at Trebanos RFC, a club that has produced many a rugby union star. Let’s hope that magic works for League.

“Jacob also has to deal with Rugby League in the home. His mum is the club secretary part of an all-female club committee at the Rhinos.

“He has represented West Wales at under 14 level and has been through the Regional Player Development Course coached by the legend that is Jon Ellis. His overall fitness and rugby ability has been brought on considerably by this programme.

“He was part of the guard of honour at the opening Wales game in Cardiff against Italy and thoroughly enjoyed this experience so we now all hope that Jacob and his team-mates enjoy Sunday’s Rugby League World Cup 2013 game at Neath.”

The main stand is sold out for Wales v Cook Islands at The Gnoll in Neath this Sunday but there are tickets available for the Family Stand and for the terracing. Go to www.rlwc2013.com to buy. Prices are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
