WALES go into their first game against South Africa in dominate move after a two-day training camp in St Helens which has been very positive.

The team for today's opener has been selected and sees a surprise choice from the selectors with Welsh senior international Christiaan Roets, who is studying in North Wales, chosen in the second row.

Also Osian Phillips, part of last year's senior Autumn International extended squad, headed by Iestyn Harris, is chosen at loose forward for the match.

The squad has bonded really well and ironed out a few creases, said team manager Mark Jones.

And assistant coach Andy Jordan said: “Preparations have been great since the Cougars game. We have got sorted out on a couple of things we need to work on. We are looking to getting started against South Africa.”

Wales are now looking forward to the first game although they know South Africa will be very formidable. Wales have prepared well and trained at Batley yesterday where the match is being played.
