Big weekend for juniors in South Wales

There are a number of big occasions involving junior and schools Rugby League sides to watch in South Wales over the next few days.

On Thursday, two new junior clubs play their first ever match at under 14 level when Gwent Chiefs host Aber Valley Wolves and Rhymney RFC. Kick-off is 7pm.

On Friday at Blackwood RFC, the final Welsh Carnegie Champions Schools Final takes place when St Joseph’s of Newport take on Dyffryn Taf of Whitland at Year 9 level.

St Joseph’s won both the Welsh and National Year 8 Champions Schools Finals last year but both finalists in this Friday’s game have already been knocked out of the national rounds of this year’s competition.

This match on Friday kicks off at 12pm.

On Saturday, South Wales Scorpions' under 18 side take on Featherstone Rovers at Caerphilly RFC. This match has brought forward from Saturday 16th June as that date clashes with the senior international between Wales and France.

Finally, on Sunday, the final junior festival of the three week series takes place at Pontyclun RFC starting at 10.30am.

These festivals have been used to give the Welsh youngsters valuable matches before the East Wales and West Wales sides are selected at under 13, 14 and 15 levels.

Last week saw a magnificent day in West Wales where all three Finals were played at South Wales Scorpions ground before, at half-time  and after the Scorpions’ win over Rochdale.

If you can catch one or all of these days, please go along.
