GRADY HAPPY WITH DRAGONHEARTS

NATIONAL COACH GIVES HIS VERDICT ON FIRST TRAINING SESSION

MIKE Grady admitted to being pleasantly surprised by the talent at the Wales Dragonhearts first training session ahead of their Home Nations Championships campaign which starts against England Lions on July 14.

National Head Coach Grady saw some of the South Wales players for the first time and said their were some really good players on show.

Now he faces agonising decisions next weekend with his assistant coaches Paul Emmanuelli and Jon Burgess plus team manager Idris Evans as the squad is cut down to 19 players before the England opener.

Grady said the session in Mid Wales was 'spot on'. He added: “The lads I have seen in training, their skills were a lot higher than I expected them to be. There were a lot of experienced lads asking me what I wanted. I was quite surprised to be honest. It was a lot more than I thought.

“I always had high expectations of the south players, having played them with my club side.

“The next session is Sunday week and then we will be cutting the squad down to 19 before training sessions in Cardiff but it will be tough to cut it down.”

Wales Dragonhearts play England Lions on Sunday July 14 at The Gnoll, Neath, before facing Ireland in Limerick and Scotland in Colwyn Bay in August.
