Match report

vs.
Venue:Deeside Leisure Centre, CH5 1SA
Date:Saturday 21st July 2012
Referee: Gould
Competition:Welsh Conference - North Wales Championship
Round:10
Referee:Ryan Gould

Flintshire Falcons moved off the bottom of the table – and above their opponents at the same time – with an 11-try victory over the Wrexham Bradley Raiders.

It was the perfect performance from the Falcons - showing tenacious goal-line defence when acquired, along with a strong attacking presence.

The hosts just edged the first period, but they really took control after the interval. Kieron McComb was at the centre of the majority of his sides crucial moves in claiming the victory, and his accuracy with the boot certainly came to the Falcons’ benefit – kicking 9 out of a possible 11, just missing out on the other two from the touchline.

Although the Raiders took the lead through Aaron Williams early on, the Flintshire-based outfit soon hit back. The sides once again exchanged tries soon after, but the Falcons held the lead due to the Raiders’ inability to slot their conversions.

And the game continued to swing from one side to another as the half continued, both sides scoring two further touchdowns before the break.

The home side continued their surge in the second period, grabbing two long range tries early on. The Raiders did find a reply through John Gormley, and with 15 minutes still remaining on the clock, the next few minutes were crucial if their aspirations to steal the game were to become a reality.

However, those hopes never came to fruition as the Falcons rounded off a memorable victory, adding a further five tries in the closing stages. McComb was at the forefront, diving over for two scores and setting up his team-mates on several occasions.

This result could prove to be of some importance, with Flintshire currently in pole position for the final play-off position after this triumpth. The Raiders in particular will have to give every effort in their remaining games if they are to make the play-off series.
