East Wales Triumph in Origin 2012

East Wales Triumph in Origin 2012

16th August 2012, 14:44

Wednesday night saw a bumper crowd at the Gnoll treated to two exhilarating games of Origin rugby league, which ended up in two wins for the East at U14 and U15 age groups to do the double over their counterparts from the West.

The 300 strong crowd were treated to a thrilling game at U14 to kick the night off, the East just edging out the West 26 – 14. After a nervy start with both sides moving around the field well, the East snatched the lead with a try from centre Jack Thompson, this was followed up quickly by a try for Ryan Davies after continued pressure on the West Wales try line, Davies’ quick tap caught them napping to go 10 points clear, Zac Bayard adding the extras. This seemed to be the wake up call and the West got into their rhythm and hit back with a try from Arwel Davies picking a great line to dance under the posts, Geraint Jones added the conversion to make the scores 10 – 6 in favour of the East. Solid work from Bayard then set up the barn storming Corrie Tarrant for a score however the West hit straight back with a try from winger Rhys Lloyd to keep it close at 14 – 10 for the East. The Easts Connor Kawlock then stretched the lead only for the West to pull it back again with a score for Dan James in the corner to make the scores 20 – 14 for the East. The East then made sure of the win with a try from stand off Iwan Baker pouncing on a ball from the scrum and going under the posts unchallenged. Bayard again added the extras to give a final score of 26 – 14 for the East.

With a thrilling game haven taken place to fire them up the U15 sides then set out to match the spectacle that had taken pace and they did not disappoint. With some huge hits going in both sides were working hard for field position with defence being the order of the day. The West then broke the deadlock when winger Ceri Symon went over in the corner after some good build up work. The East then hit straight back with a try for Connor Gregory, Brandon Isaac adding the tricky conversion. Through a tense first half the East added 2 more tires through Jack Dryden and Brandon Isaac to give them a half time lead of 14 – 4. The second half continued in the same vein with both sides looking for the finishing touch but again it was the East that struck the final blow with a try from Dafydd Rees killing off any hope of a comeback, Isaac again added the extras.
