South Wales Grand Finals Day

South Wales Grand Finals Day

14th August 2012, 13:23

Wales Rugby League will be holding the South Wales Grand Finals Day on Sunday 19th August at Virginia Park, Caerphilly from 12:00pm-7:00pm. For the first time in our history we are delighted to be able to showcase the Premier League Senior Conference final and 3 Junior Finals at the same venue, finishing what has been highly competitive season on a high.

Running Order

U14’s Welsh Junior Grand Final – Kick Off 12:00pm

U15’s Welsh Junior Grand Final – Kick Off 1.30pm

U17’s Welsh Junior Grand Final – Kick Off 3:00pm

Conference Premier League Final – Kick Off 5:00pm

The Premier League Final will see the reigning champions the Bridgend Blue Bulls compete against the Bonymaen Broncos who are yet to lose a game in their short 2 year history. During the league season they have played each other twice resulting in a Broncos win and a draw, so this final promises to be an enthralling encounter and an excellent spectacle.

Kicking off the junior finals will be the Aber Valley Wolves and the Panthers who will contest the U14’s final, the Panthers go into this match as favourites having finished the league campaign unbeaten but Aber Valley Wolves have considerably improved since their inception in May and will be hard to beat on their home turf.

The U15’s competition has been the most highly competitive league this season with the finalists progressing from a 6 team play-off series with the NPT Steelers and the Penallta Storm reaching the final. The unbeaten NPT Steelers (reigning U14’s Champions) will go into the match as favourites but the Penallta Storm have had a strong season and are looking to upset the form book.

Our final junior match is a mouth-watering encounter between the reigning U17’s champions Penallta Storm and this year’s newly formed Treharris Pheonix, the unbeaten Storm are strong favourites to lift the title for the third successive year but the Pheonix are coached by Steve Parry (Wales, Scorpions) and he will be looking to transfer all his experience and knowledge of the big games on to his young players in order to win the title.

Sunday promises to be a great day and a superb advert for the development of Rugby League in Wales. Please come and support your local team and the future rugby league stars for Wales.
