2010 Champ Final NPT Steelers 42 Torfaen Tigers 10

08th August 2010, 13:55

Neath Port Talbot Steelers dominated the majority of the inaugural Welsh Conference Championship Final, eventually winning 42-10 against the plucky Torfaen Tigers.

Steelers led after just two minutes when Dylan Griffiths set up Lee Jenkins to go over with Dane Clancy converting.

Torfaen got a try back five minutes later were John Sutcliffe opened up a gap for Joel Pay to run through. Daryl Carter's conversion attempt went just wide.

And they took the lead from kick-off when Robert Tovey dived through the Steelers defence to ground. Carter's kick was good to make the score 10-6.

But they were only in the lead for just five minutes, Jenkins scoring his second for Steelers from close range to level the scores before they regained the advantage when Richard Brookes grounded and Clancy converted.

And NPT extended their lead four minutes before the interval with another short range try, Corey Bailey diving home, and a great individual try from full-back Tom Powell following kick-off, converted by Clancy, gave the Steelers a 16-point lead at the interval.

Richard Cunniffe extended the local side's lead eight minutes into the second half with a try that was converted by Clancy.

Tigers attempted a try back but had a score disallowed for a knock-on.

Steelers recovered and extended their lead after Nicky Clancy ran through with his brother Dane somehow missing the easy goal.

Richard Brooks followed him over for his second that Dane Clancy goaled to complete the scoring and give the local side a deserved win.
