In Round 2, Scotland and Wales fought out a sensational battle
In Round 2, Scotland and Wales fought out a sensational battle that finished a draw at 18 points each. It was Scotland that shot into an early lead with a penalty from captain Barry Earl and tries from James Morrow and Richard Sloman. Two conversions by Earl meant that Scotland were justifiably ahead at 14-0.
Wales were disappointing with ball in hand but kept themselves in the game with a John Trick try goaled by Matt Jackson. At half time Scotland led 14-6.
After the break Scotland extended their lead to 18-6 as impressive centre Stuart Dunbar crossed by the corner but too wide for Earl to add the extras. With matters becoming desperate Welsh hooker Lloyd O'Connor crashed over and then in a fumble Matt Barron fell onto a loose ball. Jackson kicked his ninth conversion in a row to draw the match level at 18-18. In the last minute, man of the match Scotland stand off Richard Hawkyard was dismissed for a high tackle and the sides were left to share the spoils but Scotland could rightly feel themselves unlucky not to win.
