Burke: "It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’ve been able to have over here"
Wales have worked on their mistakes ahead of tomorrow’s group match against Fiji, according to Joe Burke
John Kear’s men will be aiming to respond to their 50-6 defeat to the Kumuls in Port Moresby last weekend.
Wales have been in Townsville in North Queensland since Sunday night in preparation for the clash with Fiji at the 1300MILES Stadium.
“In Townsville, we have settled nicely,” Burke said.
“The training sessions that we’ve had have been hard and tough.
“Coming out of this week, we’re a lot more comfortable to deal with the environment.
“I think what may help is that our kick-off is early.
“It’ll be a tough game but, as a team, we know what we’re going to work on and we’ve discussed, as a group of players, what we need to be doing to give ourselves the best chance.
“They’re notorious big hitters. They’re hard runners and strong lads.
“They have got a bit of skill about them. There are people like Jarryd Hayne who can pull anything out of the bag at the blink of an eye.”
On the World Cup to date, the forward said: “Four years ago, it was my target to play in the World Cup and, unfortunately, I missed out.
“My main goal over the last couple of years has been getting selected for this one.
“It’s a great opportunity to be able to do it in Australia.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’ve been able to have over here.
“I’ve worked during the week on what I was told I needed to work on. It’s paid dividends now as I’ve been selected for Fiji.”
