Wales Students continued their preparation for the forthcoming Student Rugby League World Cup with a comfortable 40-12 win over an understrength North Wales Origin RL side.

North Wales’ preparation hit a major diversion with 24 hours to go after several key players withdrew due to injury and work commitments. So with only 15 available players, they were behind the eight ball before a tackle was made against a strong Student side.

In ideal playing conditions and a fast track meant an open game from the off and with the sides agreeing to score tries only – no kicks at goal were allowed in this challenge match - the early exchanges indicated a physical contest was on the cards.

Wales Students ran into an early 16-0 lead finding success on edges with Blake Turner, Matt Davies, Dan Crabtree and Curtis Davies all crossing.

North Wales Origin settled into a pattern and some quick ruck ball saw three tries in response, two from Aled Jones and one from Thom Crossman.

But the students went over twice more before the whistle through Marcus Webb and Jared Hinnem to lead 24-12 at half-time.

With limited interchanges the North Wales Origin side had to dig deep with some great work in defence around the ruck and the students had to work hard to break the Origin resolve scoring just once more before the hour. The last 20 minutes saw three tries that kept the students score board ticking over with Rob Davies, Matt Davies, Adrian Chaima and George Jenkins the second half try scorers.
